Bill Engelhardt's MUSTANGS GRIDIRON Corner

This site is currently dedicated to covering the fortunes of the South Western High School MUSTANGS football team in York County, Pennsylvania. SOUTH WESTERN MUSTANGS GRIDIRON columns will be posted for a preseason review and following each game during the season. And we will follow my Alma Mater, the CUTTERS of Fair Lawn High School in Bergen County, New Jersey, with THE GRIDIRON columns by my twin brother Dick, the stadium announcer "Voice of the CUTTERS."

An improved Fair Lawn team took the field in ’08 with really impressive victories over Northern Valley/Demarest, Mahwah, NV/Old Tappan and Bergenfield. A win in the Pascack Valley thriller would have had our CUTTERS in the States. Stan Myles' 2008 CUTTERS outscored the opposition 320-227 for an average 32-23 victory in 10 games, coming in 2nd in FLHS history to Frank Devens' 1966 CUTTERS who outscored the opposition 314-113 for an average 35-13 victory in 9 games. Their 32 point per game average put our CUTTERS at #8 in the top 25 scoring teams in North Jersey! Joe Visaggio made Second Team All-Bergen County at RB and Chris Soltys at DB. Kevin Carlson and Nick Graff received Honorable Mention. Visaggio and Carlson made First Team All-NBIL Division 1 at RB and Nick Graff made it at LB and Soltys at DB. Second Team All-NBIL Division 1 honors went to Travis Kubasta at QB, Adam Polisi at T, Sacir Hot K, Yuval Bussi and James Mallon at DL and Matt Brunetti at P. WGHT Radio (1500AM) named Soltys (DB) and Visaggio (RB) to its All Listening Area Team.

As our CUTTERS look ahead to 2009 awaiting finalization of the State realignment plan so they’ll know who their foes will be, they’ll miss guys like Rob Burns, Brunetti, Mike Berkhofer, Bussi, Carlson, Spencer Carter, Graff, Hot, Sergio LaPLaca, Matt Maher, Greg Rau, Visaggio and Brian Walis. However, guys like Egor Buharin, Davon Johnson, Kubasta, Mallon, Mike Oates, Polisi, Kelvin Rosario, Christian Samra, Tim Schrettner, Soltys, Brendan Walis and others could make our CUTTERS strong again.
